German Chancellor Angela Merkel Tells China to Show Respect
The international community needs to go further in showing China the errors of its ways than just a verbal warning like the one given by the chancellor today. Yes, China will be under increased scrutiny as the games approach, but that is not enough to teach China a lesson. A huge boycott of the Olympic Games would embarrass the Chinese publicly, on the international stage, and maybe force them to abide by international standards. China should have never been granted the honor of hosting the games in the first place without first showing great strides in human rights, fair trade, and in abiding to international law. Maybe the international community needs to sit this Olympic Games out and show solidarity in taking a firm stance against corruption, human rights violations and numerous other scandalous activities.
Wait, hold on, if no one showed up then China might win the most Golds! That too would be a boon to the communist party! I guess the countries that have a good chance of taking more Golds than China better show up after all!!
Highlights of different news articles:
- China feels that it is working hard towards meeting pollution controls, but just does not have the resources like the richer nations of the world.
- China’s involvement with African countries and exploiting them for their resources not really addressed specifically.
- General warnings and a lot of soft language used in criticizing China.

This is conveniently one of the most interesting reads I have observed. Time and time again, Canon has proved the industry wrong, displaying the planet that their cameras are high quality. Whilst I don’t agree with every thing you said here, you do have a fairly great point.
